Morning

Skipton Castle

The 900-year-old castle stands at the top of the High Street and is your first stop in Skipton.

The fully roofed castle has a fascinating history, and you can discover the stories of the people who lived here. Pick up the free self-guided trail and follow in the footsteps of lords and knights as you make your way around the site exploring the dungeon, banqueting hall and watch tower.

Enjoy a breakfast picnic in the castle grounds or visit Clifford Tea Rooms for a drink or some food.

Next stop

Craven Museum and Skipton Town Hall

The Craven Museum located in Skipton Town Hall has many fascinating exhibits to look at and there are hand-on activities happening over the summer holidays, too, including Make and Take family craft sessions.

Check out the programme of events taking place including some great family-friendly performances.

Afternoon

Ingleborough Cave

Head north from Skipton further into the Yorkshire Dales to Ingleborough Cave. Walk through the Nature Trail to the cave entrance and make your way down 500 metres underground to discover a magical world deep beneath the ground. Spectacular displays of stalagmites and stalactites will astound and amaze you.

This summer follow the new family trail to discover the mythical Mimpish Squimbies and finish your visit with some refreshments at the Sawmill Cafe.

And finally

Ribblehead Viaduct

Drive to the imposing Ribblehead Viaduct and walk up to the high arches letting the children burn off more energy and have fun in the fresh air. Count all the arches and stand underneath them while you take in the views of the surrounding countryside and listen to the sounds of sheep bleating. You can also wait to see a train going across the viaduct.
