About Curlew Trail

Enjoy a hearty walk out of Pateley Bridge up the hills above the town for spectacular views out over the town, and Nidderdale with the chance to see some of the fantastic local birdlife.Walk GuideThe Curlew trail is a nice version of a local favourite.  The Walk begins by taking in the riverside path along the Nidd, where dippers can be seen in summer and otters are beginning to re-establish.  Then it is time for the hearty part of the walk with a climb up the valley side, but it’s mostly on road up the local infamous Silver Hill. This road takes you right up onto the moors and fells, be sure to take a break and look back at the view behind you over Gouthwaite Reservoir .  You then turn back towards Pateley and walk across fields and moors.  As you cross the old quarry site you can expect to see curlew, oyster catchers and quite often birds of prey such as kestrel, buzzard and red kite, before descending back into the valley.Distance: 3 miles Time: 1hr 30m Difficulty: Medium (prolonged climb, exposed)Download Map and Guide Here
