About Six Cats - Leyburn Arts Centre

Built around a selection from T S Eliots anthology Old Possums Book of Practical Cats the performance brings to life six wonderful feline characters. But unlike the famous musical adaptation this one man show has no musicno danceno special effectsjust the magical words of an incredible poet.

The poems were written for his god children by Tom Eliot and John performs them in much the same way as a father would read a story to his children, with clothes and props pulled from his bedroom cupboard, from the hooks by the front door or stolen from his wifes scarf drawer!! The set design, the richness of the characters, the excitement and the frightening situations are left to the imagination of the listenerjust as they should be in any real story telling.

John is an actor by night and a chartered surveyor by day. Born in Canterbury he gradually moved north before settling in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1980s. His stage work has included everything from The Importance of Being Earnest to Don Giovanni, the oratorio Elijah, panto, Shakespeare, street theatre and lots in between.
