About Stronger Shores and the Durham Coastline - East Durham Artist Collective - The Station

An exhibition created along with the "Stronger Shores" organisation and The Wildlife Trust to raise awareness of their work in restoring Kelp Forests and Oyster Reefs

The from East Durham Artist Collective show a collection of artworks in 2D and 3D forms relating to the coastline and more specifically the North East Durham Heritage Coast. The art ranges in subject and media though all connected to the coast. Based in Seaham, the coastline is a big part of daily life and a constant source of inspiration for them. Observing and researching the natural changes that time has seen, from the ancient Permian sea, to coal mining to the present day and the management of the kelp forests. The artists see it all from different perspectives and work in very different styles, they take different approaches to producing their art work too, making this a very varied exhibition.

The artwork in this exhibition was created along with the "Stronger Shores" organisation and The Wildlife Trust to raise awareness of their work in restoring Kelp Forests and Oyster Reefs to help protect our coasts from erosion and create a better underwater environment. It also focuses on the Magnesian Limestone Cliffs and Meadows specific to this coast.
