About Davóne Tines - Wesley Centre

A Grammy-nominated creator and performer, Tines works at the intersection of opera, spirituals, gospel, contemporary classical and protest music, crafting performances that explore identity, resilience and shared humanity. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2024 in Adams’s El Niño and his accolades include the 2024 Chanel Next Prize, the Sphinx Medal of Excellence, and the 2025 Harvard Arts Medal. The programme interweaves music from the Western European classical tradition (with pieces by Handel and Bach), alongside African American spirituals and contemporary compositions in a broad mix of styles and genres.
