About Knaresborough Museum Association Talk - Unearthed and Re-examined - Knarsborough Methodist Church
Yorkshire’s medieval pottery has long been known for its broad range of shapes, decorations, and manufacturing techniques, but there has been little research into the emergence and development of its production and its distribution, even though new finds continue to appear. This talk will look at some of the results from an ongoing PhD research project that aims to shed new light on this. We will explore different research methods that help us better understand where and how this pottery was produced, and how we can interpret its distribution and use in medieval Yorkshire. The talk will finish with a look at what we currently know about pottery production and use in the Knaresborough area.
Yannick Signer is an archaeologist and postgraduate researcher at the University of York who specialises in archaeological pottery and medieval landscapes. He is currently undertaking project on the development of Yorkshire’s medieval pottery production, particularly between the 11th and 13th centuries.
