About Folk Club Special, hosted by the Blow-Ins - St Mary's Church
This brilliant event brings together some of Scarborough and Whitbys finest folk musicians each with their individual styles, hosted by Scarboroughs own Blow-ins.
Expect an evening of finely crafted songs, beautiful instrumentals, glorious harmonies, a smile and of course the chance to sing along.
This is a rare opportunity to see Anna Shannon in concert. Anna is a prolific writer of contemporary songs very much in the traditional style, many of which have been accepted into the National Folk Music Library. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, she is a local treasure.
Rob van Sante and Janie Meneely combine stellar guitar and vocal work with many of their songs inspired by life on the shores of Janies native Chesapeake Bay. They delight in sharing their music, merriment and (sometimes) mayhem.
Alan Rose and Linda Hardcastle sing traditional and contemporary folk songs in glorious harmony, delivered with engaging humour and heartfelt humanity.
The Blow-ins are Bridget Cousins and Phil Bennett - the well -known Scarborough based harp and guitar duo playing an eclectic mix of traditional, contemporary and original songs and tunes with flair and passion.
The Ukrainian choir is a small vocal ensemble of women celebrating their culture here in Scarborough. Expect beautiful harmonies as they share traditional folk and other songs, previewing a song of blessing and celebration which will be taught on 31 May in a workshop as part of Scarborough Streets Festival.
The Blow-ins are increasingly well-known in Scarborough and beyond, bringing their unique blend of Celtic Harp, guitar and voices to original music and songs as well as traditional folk. Their work has been described as mesmerising, exquisite, soul food. The Blow-ins will take you on a musical journey encompassing delicious instrumentals and songs of history, passion, protest and love with gentle humour and a generous helping of joy.
