About Cataractonium: Preserving Catterick's Roman Heritage - Northallerton Library
This captivating exhibition features Roman artefacts excavated from the Catterick Garrison area. Curated by Mark Hill of the Catterick Garrison Veterans Historical Archive, the display offers a rare glimpse into Roman Britain through locally discovered objects.
Visitors can explore a wide range of artefacts including catapult projectiles, knives, coins, jewellery, and everyday items such as a bronze rat-tailed spoon and an antler comb. These pieces are a fascinating insight into the craftsmanship and daily life of Roman settlers in North Yorkshire. See the delicately painted miniatures and take part in a replica Roman battle, hosted by the Brompton Bankers.
