Carve a Yorkshire Rose out of Stone - Just Makers

Join seasoned local stonemason Alex Macey for a hands-on introduction to the historic craft of stone carving. In this immersive taster day, you’ll learn the fundamentals of masonry, exploring traditional tools and techniques while carving a 2D image of your own design into stone.

Alex trained as a banker mason, carving intricate architectural features for church windows and heritage buildings. With over 18 years of experience working on listed buildings, Alex now specialises in stone repair, lime pointing, restoration, and dry stone walling, all grounded in time-honoured craftsmanship.

This friendly, supportive workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with a little experience. All tools and materials are provided. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and creative ideas (although we can help with the ideas too!).

The workshop takes place in the atmospheric Engine Room, set within the beautiful Ripley Castle Estate. Please note: the venue is a short walk from the Just Makers shop, where restrooms are available.
