About The Great Knaresborough Bed Race
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is a lively and unique annual event held every June in the historic market town of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Since 1966, teams of six runners have competed by pushing a decorated bed with a passenger along a challenging 2.4-mile course. The route takes participants through scenic parklands, the dramatic Nidd Gorge, steep hills, bustling town streets, and even includes a daring 30-yard swim across the chilly River Nidd.
More than just a race, the event is a vibrant celebration of creativity and community spirit. Each team designs and decorates their bed around a fun theme, adding color and humor to the competition. The race attracts up to 90 teams and thousands of spectators, creating a festive atmosphere filled with laughter, cheers, and friendly rivalry.
