Further up the dale, Gunnerside reveals Swaledale’s industrial past with ruins like Old Gang Mines and the Surrender Smelt Mill. Walk the Gunnerside Gill Trail for waterfalls and dramatic gorges or enjoy the vibrant Upper Swaledale Hay Meadows in spring and summer.

In Muker, famous for its traditional hay meadows, the annual Muker Show in late August features sheepdog trials and fell races. Walk the Muker Meadows Walk or the Corpse Road to Keld for stunning views.
