About Skipton Choral Society's Winter Concert - Christ Church

Following our sold-out concerts in March and July, join Skipton Choral on Saturday 6th December for a wonderful winter concert: we'll be performing with a quartet of professional soloists and a fabulous wind quintet!

Dvok's well-known Mass in D major (Op. 86), characterised by its lyrical and contemplative nature, achieves expressive power through folksong-like melodies and rich harmonies.

We'll also be singing Hubert Parry's "Hear My Words, Ye People" in aworld premiere arrangement for wind quintet by our conductor, Robert Webb. The anthem draws on texts from the Books of Isaiah, Job, and Psalms and emphasises God's compassion, particularly towards the poor, orphans and those in mourning. It also highlights themes of deliverance from suffering, spiritual restoration, and the joy found in God's grace and love. It has a grand, celebratory conclusion, with a setting of "O praise ye the Lord," which has become a very popular hymn.
