About Forgotten Women of History Fight Back: Anna Mazzola, Liz Hyder, and Donna Moore - Quayside
Anna Mazzola is the award-winning writer of historical, Gothic and crime fiction. She also writes thrillers under the pen name Anna Sharpe. Her most recent historical novel, The Book of Secrets, was awarded the CWA Gold Dagger for Crime Novel of the Year, 2025. A dark tale, inspired by real events that took place in 17th century Italy, it delves into the moral rights and wrongs of self-defensive murder in a male-dominated society.
Liz Hyder’s adult debut, The Gifts was the award-winning historical novel set in 1840 following four women who extraordinarily sprout wings in an age defined by men. Her next novel, The Illusions, inspired by real-life illusionists, is an astonishing story of women and talent, magic, and power.
Donna Moore’s The Devil’s Draper is a historical crime novel set in Glasgow in 1920 following an intrepid trio of women on a perilous journey. Where women’s voices are often silenced, this thrilling tale weaves together crime, justice, and the fight for equality.
