About Books by the Beach 2025 - JOANN FLETCHER

PROF JOANN FLETCHER is based at the University of York and is Lead Ambassador for the Egypt Exploration Society, patron of Scarborough's 'Big Ideas by the Sea' festival and Egyptologist to the Egyptomania Museum. Her books include The Story of Egypt, Cleopatra the Great and The Search for Nefertiti. Having won a BAFTA and Royal Television Society Award for her TV work, she's written and presented several series for the BBC including Immortal Egypt with Joann Fletcher.This evening Joann will give an illustrated talk entitled 'The Story of Egypt's Royal Women: from Queens to Female Pharaohs. From the first named woman in history to its final pharaoh, the royal women of ancient Egypt have left an extraordinary legacy from which the modern world can learn so much. Highlighting her own work researching the lives of such iconic figures as Hatshepsut, Nefertiti and of course the great Cleopatra, Jo will reveal their status as female pharaohs alongside the numerous women who served as queens and officials over some three thousand years.Photo Credit: Yorkshire Post/@Barnsley Museums
