April Showcase of Local talented young performers, featuring two Singer/Songwriters, Anna Howells and Emma Jane and a violinist, Grace Hughes, who also sings and plays the piano. Anna Howells. Since the release of her debut EP Fall Of A Leaf on 15th November, Annas EP has been played on BBC Radio 2 The Folk Show, Iain Anderson BBC Radio Scotland and Celtic Heartbeat BBC Radio Wales among others. More recently, she was named a "highly recommended artist" after being selected to perform at Celtic Connections on the Danny Kyle Open Stage. Anna has always been surrounded by music, from her Irish roots and playing the saxophone and clarinet from an early age to more recently taking up the guitar. She discovered her voice smoky, rich at a songwriting workshop. In 2023, Anna was selected for STAGES at Moniack Mhor (Scotlands Creative Writing Centre) - an immersive song writing development programme for emerging artists. The resulting 12 track album included Hope Flies With Swallows Wings which led to her being asked to record a Balcony Session for BBC Introducing. Anna is a captivating performer whose live reputation is growing.Emma Jane is a young singer songwriter who writes about thoughts and emotions that most people across all generations can relate to. Local to Ripon, she is starting to emerge as a real talent. Currently studying music performance and production at York College, she hopes to forge a career using her undeniable talent and doing the thing she loves.Grace Hughes is in her final year at York College studying music level 3. As well as violin, she also sings and plays piano. She has just started learning guitar. In September, she will be going to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester to study violin.
