About Anne & Charlotte Bronte on the Yorkshire Coast

The Brontë sisters Anne and Charlotte visited the Yorkshire Coast many times, including Scarborough, Bridlington, and Filey.Anne died in Scarborough in 1849 and is buried in St Mary's churchyard. Charlotte and Anne stayed at Wood's Lodgings in Scarborough. Anne's novels The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey were inspired by her time in Scarborough. Bridlington Charlotte's first holiday was in Bridlington in 1839. She traveled by train for the first time and saw the sea for the first time. Filey Charlotte retreated to Filey after returning from Scarborough alone and broken-hearted. She was alone with the sea, seagulls, and crashing waves. Other locations The Brontë sisters visited Easton House in 1839. They also visited other east coast resorts. The Brontë sisters loved the Yorkshire Coast. Charlotte's favorite was Filey.
