The Politics of Pudding; a talk by Pen Vogler - Ryedale Folk Museum

We’ll be welcoming acclaimed food historian Pen Vogler to the museum for this illuminating celebration of our region’s food heritage. The author of the Sunday Times bestselling Scoff: A History of Food and Class in Britain and Stuffed: A Political History of What We Eat and Why it Matters will take us on a delicious journey through food history.

Introduced by local author and Country Living feature-writer, Sally Coulthard, Pen’s tantalising talk will explore local food and drink, including Yorkshire’s cheeses, bakes and puddings – and not forgetting beer and tea. Join us to discover why local varieties – including some of our most iconic Yorkshire dishes – are not just curiosities, but intrinsically linked to our politics and health. Because food is much more than a matter of taste.

Pen Vogler has written recipe books inspired by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, has a regular food column in The New Statesman, and gives frequent media interviews about contemporary and historic issues in food.
