North Yorkshire always offers a warm welcome to visitors and never more so than in the run up to Christmas.

The many market towns and villages are decorated and illuminated for the season and there are a wide range of attractions, events and activities to enjoy. There are family friendly events, chances to meet the big man himself or something that is just delightfully that little bit different.

Explore Harrogate’s warm and welcoming Christmas market, take a spin on the ice rink, enjoy some street entertainment or take in the spectacular illuminations from Glow at RHS Harlow Carr, to Music and Lights at Fountains Abbey as well as the twinkling Christmas displays in towns and villages creating  a magical, festive atmosphere.

There’s plenty of festive cheer on offer in Selby and Tadcaster as villages and towns switch on their Christmas lights and festive décor adorns shops, tea rooms and attractions. You can enjoy a festive day out, a visit to see Santa or enjoy a horse drawn ride through a forest. Perfect with a little mulled wine!

The Yorkshire coast is bursting with Christmas activities whatever you have planned. There’s the new festive event, Scarborough Lights, which will see the whole town sparkle and shine until December 23, with many free light displays to enjoy. There are Christmas markets where you can find a unique gift for someone special, Victorian weekends and even an old traditional Krampus run!

There’s even a fab elf trail to follow around the historic streets of Northallerton!

And if you’re looking for ideas to fill those strange days between Christmas and New Year, there are plenty of Twixtmas activities to consider whether you fancy a refreshing outdoor swim, a brisk walk in one of our lovely green spaces or relaxing in a cosy café or welcoming pub…North Yorkshire has you covered.
